Xcode 8.2.1 simulator crashes when attempting screenshot!

Story Problem: OK. So I made another app and now I am beside myself with joy that I can actually submit it for review. I run the application in the Xcode 8.2.1 simulator, I go to File–> Save Screen Shot and the simulator crashes!! I now get a box appearing telling me the the ‘Simulator quit unexpectedly ….’

Resolution #1 – Easiest and Fastest Way:

  1. Run the app again in the Xcode simulator.
  2. Use the following key sequence (all keys at the same time) SHIFT+COMMAND+4
  3. Press the spacebar once
  4. Click on the simulator screen with your mouse

That’s it! The screenshot was saved to your desktop!

Resolution #2 – Giving you more control on format / where to save file:

  1. Run the app again in the Xcode simulator.
  2. When you are ready to take the screenshot then go to Edit—> Copy Screen
    1. OPTION 1: Start the built-in Preview App on your Mac by going to Spotlight Search (upper right hand corner of the screen) – type Preview to start. When started it will ask you to open a file so just select DONE. Go to File–>New From Clipboard. Then save by going to File–>Export As (and pick the format you want to save it as).
    2.  OPTION 2: For GIMP Users start Gimp and go to File–>Create–> From Clipboard. Then, save with File–> Export As (and pick the format you want to save it as).

I hope this bug gets fixed in the tool. I have the workaround but it is still somewhat annoying that the simulator crashes.

Hope this helps!
